Spin Master Opens Applications for 2022 Future of Play Scholarship Program

Now in its second year, the program will support those studying in the fields of  Toys, Entertainment and Digital Games

TORONTO, May 10, 2022 - Spin Master Corp. (TSX: TOY) (www.spinmaster.com), a leading global children’s entertainment company, has opened applications for the Spin Master Future of Play Scholarship program supporting the education and career advancement of individuals from underrepresented communities in the fields of each of the company’s creative centres: toys, entertainment and digital games. Launched in  June 2022, Spin Master’s Scholarship Program provides financial aid as well as mentorship and the potential for an internship with the company.

In 2021, Spin Master granted seven scholarships to individuals from underrepresented communities, including BIPOC, women and LGBTQIA+ students seeking post-secondary education within the areas of toy design, animation, creative production, digital gaming and app development, agnostic of post-secondary institution. In addition to financial support, the recipients were given the opportunity to secure internships at Spin Master commencing this summer with the potential for full-time employment upon completion of studies. All scholarships are renewable in 2022 and Spin Master is now seeking to provide financial  assistance  to a new cohort of students  in time for fall 2022 enrollment.

"The Spin Master Future of Play Scholarship is a gateway to being able to create for the rest of my life,” said Grace Whaley, recipient of a 2021 scholarship pursuing a career in animation studies. “My biggest dream, for as long as I can remember, has always been to stay creative and exercise my imagination. I want to inspire others through art and writing and tell stories that will stick with people for the rest of their lives. Spin Master is giving me the opportunity to do exactly that."

Applications for the 2022-2023 academic year are now open. This year, Spin Master will grant eight scholarships: three entertainment scholarships, one gaming scholarship and four toy scholarships within Canada and the US.

“The goal of our scholarship program is to build awareness about our industry, attract talent from diverse communities, and develop the next generation of leaders within the children’s entertainment industry,” said Tara Deakin, Spin Master’s Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer. “At Spin Master we believe that diversity of thought fuels new ideas and innovations which will only benefit the children and families we entertain.”

Spin Master has established a specific set of criteria for each award and judging committees with representation from each discipline.
